I’m Leisa, a Western Sydney based artist and my work is mainly inspired by the deeper side of life.

 

Emotion is the basis of each of my pictures, even the simplest pictures are of something more meaningful in life, what I deliver always comes from the heart.

 

Self-trained artist, from a very early age I loved art, especially drawing. I found Surrealist art in my high school years that I really identified with. I’ve always naturally drawn to anything creative and expressive in life or anything with real meaning, whether it be music, poetry, political graffiti or history. This is where I found my interest in tattoo art. It was unruly, different, rebellious and bold, much aligned to who I am! Completely obsessed with it, in fact I was the only one I knew at my age purchasing tattoo magazines, reading all the articles, studying its form and vivid colours. 

 

I found it fascinating, the artists and the history from Egypt, tribal and traditional of Pacific islands practices and the intriguing Japanese bodysuits. I loved reading articles about renegade women involved with tattoos, as it was a mainly male-dominated world and was an inspiration to see these women follow their heart and make a difference in this world.

 

From the age of 15, it appealed to me immensely with genres from reality to gospel and most importantly neo-traditional was my main influence. I loved the idea and look of merging the old with the new.

 

I also instinctively had a love for animals and a love for learning about them. Brings back memories, of me as a kid bringing home the injured bird or lost pet, so naturally bringing together my two loves took place and shaped the artist I am today.

 

There is a story and meaning to it all, whatever that interpretation is to you, is yours. I truly hope my pictures bring about that for you in some way.
